Olivia Louvel - Lulu In Suspension
Olivia Louvel is a French born, England based composer & performer, crafting electronic songs from laptop and voice.
Lulu in Suspension is her new digital music composition, inspired by Louise Brooks and her book “Lulu in Hollywood”and released on French label Optical Sound (Records & Fine Arts).
Described in turn as “digitale diseuse”, “mutant Björk”, or “electronic diva”, she has previously released 2 albums: The album Capture with Paul Kendall ( ex Mute Records) under the moniker of The Digital Intervention, in 2003 on French label Ici d’Ailleurs. And in 2006, her first solo album Luna Parc Hotel, which has been described as resigned beauty and musicality out of the norm, was released on Austrian label Angelika Köhlermann.Luna Parc Hotel also features Michael J.Sheehy on guitar for the cover of The Motel (David Bowie)
Initially trained in classical singing, she then rapidly became interested in contemporary vocal music. She began working as a singer for the French theatre/ acrobatic company “Les Arts Sauts” and toured with them for 3 years through many European Festivals until the Festival of Perth, Australia. In 1999, she graduated from the Superior National Conservatory of Dramatic Art of Paris. She bought her first laptop in 2003 and that year began to develop her digital music compositions. From 2004 until 2007, Olivia Louvel has performed & produced music for dancer/choreographer Satchie Noro for various projects.
On the fringe of her electronic textural songs, she has developed another musical project based on "haiku" by poet Basho. She performed the music at Festival en Boîte in Lyon.While Olivia Louvel ’s emphasis lies not only in sound but also art, she experimented with digital video to produce her audio/ visual project:ō, which was shown amongst Warp clips & Daft Punk’s Electroma at Festival Electron (edition 5) in Geneva.
