Various Artists - Last Winter We Didn't Sing
Last Winter We Didn’t Sing features winter-inspired music from the likes of Scott Tuma (ex-Souled American), The Instruments [Elephant 6 cellist, Gnarls Barkley and Lil Wayne (?!) touring bassist Heather McIntosh], pedal steel guitarist Susan Alcorn with a hauntingly beautiful 16-minute solo improvisation, Greg Davis inspired by a Simon & Garfunkel “Silent Night” arrangement, downer-psych duo Beggin’ Your Pardon Miss Joan, Fabio Orsi playing an ambient noir-jazz piece like something out of Twin Peaks, Nicholas Szczepanik with a heart-wrenching piece of beauty and Chartreuse slowing down a traditional French waltzing carol. It’s a somber and reflective take on the season with a beautiful illustration by Ariel Kitch screen-printed on heavy chipboard eco packs by Sire Press.
